ALBUM COVER REDESIGN | PHOTO DESIGN II
Objective: Use photography to communicate a concept inspired by a style of music and and pre-existing album title and artist. The cover should feature only the artist name and title; your photography must work in harmony with the title to convey the mood, attitude, and concept of the record in a compelling way. It should reflect the sound of the band, the lyrics in the songs, and the overall style of the artist.
THE RECORD

Unreal Unearth is the third studio album by Hozier. The record captures the sounds of indie-rock, folk gospel, blending it all into a timeless piece. Written during the pandemic, Hozier wrote the album as a dramatic way to process grief and change in the modern world. Most of the songs on the album are loosely based on Dante's Inferno, where the listener musically descends through the nine circles of hell.
MOODBOARD
PHOTOSHOOT
Knowing that the album was based off Dante's Inferno gave me a baseline for my photoshoot. I decided to photograph my childhood best friend and frame her in a mysterious, ethereal way, utilizing light and nature to my advantage.
ITERATION AND REFINEMENT

Next, I selected some of the best photos in my layout and began experimenting with type and imagery. In my iterations, I experimented with the gatefold content, the typography, and the photo selection and editing.

SHAKE IT RECORDS
I received the incredible honor of having my LP displayed at Shake It Records in Cincinnati. Maddie Hordinski, Jacob Moscovitch (Photo Editor at New York Magazine), and the two owners of Shake It were in charge of selecting 13 of the best records from the Photo Design II classes. Albums were chosen based on the overall design of each cover, how effectively the visuals reflected the music and mood of the album, and the quality of the final assembly and presentation.
My record is displayed in the top right corner.
