CREATURE MARK | SPRING 2026
Design Aesthetics 2 | Objective: Interpret an assigned creature using fundamental elements of design and to communicate unique physical, behavioral, and personality traits. Explore ways to retain meaning and qualities of a natural form while translating it into a graphic language.
RESEARCH
When I thought about what animal to choose for my project, I immediately decided on a fox. There are a lot of different ways to interpret a fox-they are graceful and elegant, sharp and witty, and can sometimes cause trouble. This gave me many options for what my final design could communicate.
PHYSICAL IDEATION
I quickly sketched out a range of different poses I could use, which included: jumping, pouncing, and looking up at the sky. I then decided to take three of my concepts and iterate on them digitally.
DIGITAL IDEATION
I decided early on that I wanted the body of my fox to be constructed mostly out of perfect circles in order to give my design a balanced feel. I was inspired by the look of fresh calligraphy on a white page-perfect for a quick and elegant creature.
REFINEMENT
PHASE II: FIBONACCI COMPOSITION & INTERPRETIVE PHRASE
Objective: Create a way to communicate the meaning of an assigned
concept/phrase within a defined set of limitations. Utilize the form of the text to communicate the actual meaning within the word.

DIGITAL IDEATION
FINAL PHRASE
In this final composition, each component is selected and treated differently. The phrase "The solitary hunter emerges at dawn" presents many opportunities to have the text read a certain way. "Solitary" is actually distant from the other words. "Hunter" creates the ground on which the fox walks. The letters in "emerges" are literally emerging, and the word "dawn" rises from the bottom of the page. The whole composition aligns with the Fibonacci grid structure, leading the eye through the design.
